KATAZA ~ Gone but not forgotten
Kataza was a member of a troop of raiding baboons in a little township on the coast. baboons were there thousands of years before we were, and the people of the area know that living there will involve being raided for food from time to time, and that's the way we have co-existed for years.
Out of the blue, the local council decided to take the matter into their own hands and came and darted Kataza and moved him inland to another area (Tokai). Within a day he was attacked by the baboon s in that area as he was seen as an invader . A month followed whilst he was attacked on a regular basis and was in a totally miserable state, when an action group got permission for him to be returned to his home.
All appeared to be fine until last week, when someone else in council got a Bee in their Bonnet and decided that he must either be killed or sent right away. The SPCA then got involved and organized that he be sent to a wildlife sanctuary in Limpopo, over 1000 miles away.
He was darted and moved to Limpopo this week.
A really sad story, as he is once again in a foreign place where he is going to have to be accepted by yet another troop, and he's been separated from his family ( partner and babies) yet again - why humans have to get involved in this sort of thing is beyond my comprehension!
