On July 19 we proceeded north from Little Whale River. At 56° 9´58.65"N the canoes turned inland and entered a narrow opening in the high coastal cliffs.
Once through the passage the scene opened into the vast expanse of the inland sea - Richardson's Gulf. One of the guides said “Muskox!” and pointed to a rocky headland. We landed and walked up to the extraordinary animal, which stood its ground as we approached to photograph it.
