New Look 6557 and Simplicity 5914 by Kchaffin (Kelly Chaffin)
The dress top is made from New Look pattern 6557 The attached bottom is made from Simplicity 5914 gored skirt pattern. The dress is made from tissue silk, it has french seams, and heirloom sewn ivory lace loops on the hem. I formed each loop and did a zig zag stitch around it, and trimmed out the middle and bottom. Inside each loop is an ivory embroidered flower on English cotton netting. I zig zaged around that also. The middle section is completely pin tucked with cording, this goes around to the back. The straps have the lace attached to them to pull in the ivory on the top of the dress. The entire dress is lined with silk charmeuse with french seams. I underlined the top and middle section with silk organza. I put in a lapped hand picked zipper into the side of the dress. I chose this skirt because I loved the gored aspect of it and I knew with heirloom sewing it would look really good.
I couldn't find a dress that I had envisioned so I combined the two patterns to make this dress. The only modification was adjusting the waist up a little bit on the dress pattern because it curved down.
