30 Seconds of My Life on the California Coast

Here I am trying to stay put in the surf for 30 seconds as the classic California coastal summer fog rolls by! No HDR.

After getting some interesting long exposures, I wanted to have some fun. So I set the timer on 10 seconds with my very dark filter and jumped in. It took several attempts and about 10 minutes to get it right. The sand under my feet would get swept away and I would move too much. This is the closest I could get to standing still for 30 seconds.

When I took this shot, the temperature in my home town 20 miles inland from San Francisco was 110F in the shade (43c.) The temperature here was a refreshing and air conditioned 58F (15c.) I wanted a cool breeze and I sure got it. Be careful what you ask for!

The map shows exactly where this is.
