Flying By

Hagrid, a 6-year old Great Horned Owl, was an orphan. Apparently his parents abandoned the nest after laying the eggs, so the eggs were transferred to an incubator. Hagrid's was the only egg that hatched.

During the years he has been at the Greater Vancouver Zoo, he has been taught to be a Great Horned Owl, having originally thought that he was a human who could fly, according to his trainer, Gary.

He is absolutely beautiful, and can be seen during the 'Radical Raptors - Birds of Prey' demonstration held several times each day (weather permitting). He is free to fly away at any time, but sees no reason to do so. (11-07-12-2641)
