Jewel in the Crown
This is Ephesus's jewel ....a place a comparative few of the many thousands of tourists who flock here daily ever visit . You have already paid to get in and you have to pay more for this , so folk generally dodge it .
A mistake ,i believe!
The whole hillside in Ephesus is covered in houses buried under the sands of time . These few square meters are the only sections that have been excavated .
What treasures do they hold . Standing walls and in places ceilings often covered with plaster and decorative paintwork . The floors are almost complete with Marble and tesserae still in ornate place . There are fountains and baths and doorways and marble thresholds and steps all beautifully crafted .
I can only wonder at what still awaits discovery in this special location.
