Crib-Death Consolation (Oil on wood panel, 18"x24")
I sketched "Crib-Death Consolation" one night at work, just after a mom told me about losing a baby. Some years ago, I quit in frustration after attempting to paint it. Recently I felt compelled to try again. The composition supplements my "Baby's Farewell" poem (www.pastordavidrn.com/files/poem-babysfarewell.pdf). And, in sync with the new hospital standard of recognizing the benefits of "skin-to-skin" bonding and breastfeeding for babies after birth, my naked angel with a leaking breast is an intentional part of the concept of "consolation" after a baby's death.
