• 1. "Where are all your animals?"
Animals get old & die. The past couple of years have been especially difficult for us. We lost Savannah the ocelot, Sandy the leopard, Fender the ocelot, & our reindeers, Frisky & Mrs. Rudolf.
  • Finding appropriate animals that would do well in our existing exhibits isn't as easy as you'd think. It takes lots of research as well as time to find the best match to our habitats. Summer is the worst time to acquire new critters because it's just too hot to comfortably transport them.

The saddest zoo in the world.

Writes Sarah in Los Angeles: "While on vacation at the Jersey Shore last year, my dad, my fiance Paul and I decided to check out some local free zoos since the weather was less than ideal for the beach. The Cohanzick Zoo is actually NJ's first zoo and the website touted that they had over 200 birds and mammals from around the world. Sadly, most of those 200 animals were just local geese, as apparently a lot of the animals had died and the zoo hadn't had enough money to acquire any new animals when we went (2009). It was a dreary day to begin with and it was sad enough that the zoo was trying so hard to provide a service to the community, but these posted signs were the frosting on our sadness cake."

This is sad indeed - and not really passive aggressive, is it?
