Clean Room

The focused ion beam machine in use at the nanofabrication facility of the Molecular Foundry, Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory. The yellow light is necessary because photolithography is a primary use of the facility, and shorter wavelengths of light can interfere with fabrication using such processes (this is similar to a darkroom for developing photographic film).

Olympus ZD 9-18mm f/4 @ 9mm, f/5.6.

This photo was used in Today at Berkeley Lab in place of the photo of Josh Turner due to the lack of correct protective equipment used in working with the cryogen.
