Gunobandia, the Vedda Hunter

This fierce Vedda hunter was our speaker and guide, chosen by the tribe.

Veddas are considered the original inhabitants of the Sri Lanka.

Their race has a story of more than 20000 years.

After the arrival of the Singalese and Tamil people from the Indian peninsula they started living in the forests in a total retirement from the other societies and totally excluded from society mechanisms.

Today they still live refusing the use of elettrcicity and gas, they cannot pratice Hunting, wich is their main form of living, because it's prohbited by the law and they are basically outcasts in their own island. They have no writing or alphabet and only a small percentage of Veddas speak Singalese, in the two communities near Anuradhapura and Uva or Tamil, in the eastern province of Trincomalee.

They still practice Animism mixed with Buddhism or Induism, depending by the zone of Influence(Anuradhapura/Uva=Buddhism, Trincomalee=Induism).

No one wants to give them a job , even worst, marries them so their chances of living by their or our rules are very low in our today society
