Rolls and Rays
I shot the images for Vertorama mere moments before sunset yesterday... in a freshly harvested wheat-field... on a farm near Durbanville.
We might not have the breathtakingly beautiful lakes, forests and snow-capped mountains of the Canadian Rockies near where I live here in Cape Town... but oh boy... we sure do get some fantastic light!!
I was fortunate enough to find this field filled with rolled-up hay-bales... just as I noticed those amazing rays of light in the sky! With only minutes to spare before the sunset... I quickly parked the car... hopped over the farm fence (tresspassing on private property once again)... lay myself down on the ground... and using my elbows as my tripod... shot off as many images as I could before the sun finally dipped below the horizon.
I did set up my tripod immediately afterwards to capture the post-sunset oranges and pinks in the clouds... but by then those lovely rays had gone... so I didn't stick around for too much longer. The two images that make up this Vertorama were taken when everything looked at it's very best! :)
This one is a bit dark... but it looks much better when viewed large on black.
Nikon D300, Sigma 10-20mm at 10mm, aperture of f10, with a 1/160th second exposure.
