I captured the two images that make up this Vertorama at sunset yesterday... from the rocks on the President Hotel side of Sea Point.
These strangely patterned rocks aren't actually called "Pie Rock"... but that's what I decided to call them from the minute I laid my eyes on them. Mmmm... a piping hot and crusty apple pie... straight from the oven... my absolute favourite!! Not only did I manage to find quite a yummy foreground here... but this time I also really struck it lucky with the sunset. The clouds that you see on the left of this photo were moving rapidly towards the right... there was only a thin slice of sky visible underneath the clouds... and it was getting thinner and thinner by the minute! I didn't think that the sun would make it through the gap before it closed... but miraculously... with only seconds to spare... it made a quick appearance... gave a brief sparkle... and then disappeared behind the horizon!
The big black cross-shape between the pie-slices also reminded me of the marks that I'd made on the ballot papers earlier in the day... during South Africa's local government elections. :)
Nikon D3100, Sigma 10-20mm at 14mm, aperture of f11, with a 16th second exposure.
