Waterberg Plateau Sunset
Here is another Vertorama from my archives... taken shortly after sunset in the Waterberg Plateau Game Reserve in Namibia... way back in September 2009.
While I was taking a quick peek today at all the photos posted by my contacts over the weekend... I noticed that one of my Namibian contacts had posted some shots taken in this game reserve this weekend. Those photos showed this area with waist length, lush green grass... which isn't really surprising... since Namibia has had more rain falling in the last couple of months than has fallen there over the last decade! I remembered the grass being tinder-dry during my own visit to this wilderness... so that had me digging around in my archives again to see if I could find something interesting from there that I hadn't processed or posted yet.
I remember this moment very clearly. I was about two hundred meters off the road (and my car) in a game reserve at dusk... unarmed! There were all sorts of animals wandering around here... mostly antelope and giraffe... but also a couple of rhino... and a leopard or two (plus all the snakes and other creepy-crawlies)! I'll admit that it was perhaps not the cleverest thing that I've ever done... but I reeeally wanted to find a nicely shaped thorn tree as a foreground for this sunset. With the hairs on the back of my neck fully erect... this was the best that I managed to find. :)
Nikon D300, Sigma 10-20mm at 10mm, aperture of f11, with a 1/25th second exposure.
