Precast Soldiers

Newer Older

Location: Joostenberg Vlakte.

Description: For the past couple of months, every time I’ve driven past the Stellenbosch exit from the N1 freeway, I’ve noticed this field full of precast concrete structures. Yesterday afternoon, I decided that it was about time that I checked them out from up close… through my Sigma 10-20mm lens!

While walking around and looking for interesting compositions, I couldn’t help thinking that they looked like a platoon of soldiers, all lined up and standing to attention… so much so that when I’d finished taking my photographs, I muttered aloud… “squad, stand at ease”!

Nice slight symmetrical look to this. Extremely interesting structure. Would be interesting to see this with the light casting strong shadows.

I've come to the conclusion that EVERYTHING should be closely inspected through the view of the 10-20mm. Really great angle and compo for this shot, as always.

An excellent spot and you made the very best use of the light and cloud cover too. Nice thought process with how you arranged them. They do look a bit like soldiers.

Excellent composition. The light is perfect. Great use of the wide angle lens. It makes it very dramatic.
