Naupaktos and the Battle of Lepanto (1571)

Location from which the Turks prepared for the decisive naval battle, permanently diminishing the Turkish sea-power. In this battle Don John commanded the Christian fleet. Here too Cervantes, the author of Don Quixote, lost the use of his left hand. Additionally, Naupaktos, during the Peloponnesian War, served as a base of operations for the infamous Sicilian expedition.
