Navajo dwellings at Canyon de Chelly Arizona

Canyon de Chelly probably has some of the most spectacular places to live in all the world. Most of them are more inaccessible than this one, being perched in the middle of a sheer cliff up and down. The Navajo reached them with ladders that they would put away once they were safely inside. Mostly they lived in such incredible places for safety from other raiding tribes.

We caught Canyon de Chelly in November as the last of the cottonwoods held on to their yellow. What a spectacular place. Plus, the campsite, incredibly, is free.
