1108_1620 Crustose lichen
I am continually adding to my collection of crustose lichens that completely surround areas of bare rock on prairie boulders. The shape of the exposed rock is the interesting part to me - the so-called "negative space". Without exception, I shoot them using a macro lens, tripod, small f-stop, slow shutter speed, and I try to line up the plane of my subject parallel with the plane of my camera's sensor to ensure edge to edge sharpness.
