Santa Monica Pier at Sunrise - Lost Transmissions
I've scouted the early morning northern side of this pier on many occasions... the light is funny here..... you really need a gnarly sunrise sky with long reaching reds if you want them to blanket the skies directly over this pier. Many a wasted trip I've sat with the seagulls and watched it fizzle away... counting seashells and planning my take over of the world :).
And so the story goes....
The transmission on my Audi went the night before at a glorious sunset at this very location.... but it was able to get me back home down the 405 freeway, thanks to stop and go traffic. Can you believe i just said that.. THANKS to stop and go traffic. Proof again that all things truly are relative.
So as I studied weather radar that night, TPE Maps, dew point temps and Google Earth Sun Data, like the nomad scientist that I am, cuddled in my new Christmas blanket.... all things were pointing to YES, it was gonna take more than a bad transmission to keep me in my cozy little bed.... i decided to get up early and drive the darn thing again, by now it was just about on it's last leg... burning up with every mile... surely a moment like this is worth more than a flimsy mechanical box of twisted gears and oil, and one good picture could certainly buy a few transmissions... so.... my choice was easy. here's a quick one from the day. Sniff sniff.... you can almost smell the burning metal in the distance.
