Santa Monica, Ca - Stepping Stones
I've wanted an image like this for a while... can't tell you how many times I sat at on a foggy shoreline with my crazy light capturing instruments… snapping away... excited like a fat kid in a candy store, always with the best intensions, but never with good results. Until this day. Sunday morning I set out for the Santa Monica pier in darkness, even though weather reports were not in my favor…. I was sick Friday and Saturday, sick enough that I was locked in my house…. forced to watch sunrises and sunsets from my window…. My camera and tripod were not happy…..so when Sunday rolled around, it would have taken an earthquake to keep me away from the ocean…. when I arrived in Santa Monica, seems the LA marathon was underway and making my way to the Pier proved difficult, and frustrating to say the least, so I decided to travel on up the coast along the PCH….chasing the light…. running late I noticed the sky starting a turn for the best so I pulled over quick, just before the Chart House Restaurant…. Yeh, this is the spot…. Low tide…. Lots of rocks reaching from the surf….. Gloomy skies….. this is the place. I scoured the shoreline for the rock you see in the lower right corner... round, orangey, kind of Zen like and slightly unique in this sea of dark and creepy stones. All perfectly placed, or scattered, across the sea bed as though they each have a wonderful role to play in this exact place in time. They formed a nice triangular composition at this precise moment, just for me, and the waves were just right for this one exposure. I snapped 6 or 7, before I decided to move my tripod and seek genius elsewhere, but, this one was the one. The one I've been looking for for months... for years... perhaps eons and lifetimes. Thank the LA marathon for this one. It's a perfect reflection of how I felt on that morning. Don’t you just wanna walk out there and never come back…. HELLO OUT THERE! Wait up!
