This Machine kills Hipsters

your track bike is not a fashion accessory

    LOL!!
  • Kristopher Hannum PRO 8y

    what is this on?
  • Paul Gibson PRO 8y

It's in the window of Anchor Tattoo in Ballard. There is usually a bike parked right there in the window.

I've seen this sticker downtown (seattle) too. Monorail espresso (a popular hangout for the messengers) has one on their espresso machine...funny.
  • Linda PRO 8y

Since it's the "kills hips" that's really in focus, I'd like a little "knocked off" mine, please.

I want this sticker badly, where are they from?
  • Paul Gibson PRO 7y

KyleF, I don't know where they come from. If I find out I'll let you know.
  • theflipstewart 7y

they'll be just slightly embarrassed when gas climbs over five dollars a gallon and they're the ones that didn't plan ahead

everyone's a critic... especially of things they don't understand
  • Damian Riehl PRO 7y

The person who made these probably rides more than the top one percent. His job is bikes. He understands perfectly. The subject is the bourgeois attitude.

It's funny. 'Messenger' has become more or less equivalent with 'hipster' in many urban areas. (like the author's hometown of Seattle!) So, it's really sort of interesting that the author was dead to the irony that a track bike operated on the streets without a brake, with anodized parts and things like quill stems could be anything other than a fashion accessory. Like any other fad, participants come up with bullshit rationalizations to justify their retarded habits and fetishes (like NJS stamped parts and brakeless 'urban' riding). In the Williamsburg fixster culture this usually means coming up with ostensibly practical reasons to ride fixed. After seeing quite a few douchebag hipstengers skid through red lights in SF, it's hard for me to believe that there are any.

here here! this picture made my day.

Titanarch: Agreed! Sadly my most popular image on flickr is of some track bikes (hipsters would call them 'fixies' so as not to admit their true purpose). It's a cruel irony, considering my disdain for them (bred from many years of actual riding/racing MTB, road and cyclocross) and the relative weakness of that particular image's composition! :)

Where does one purchase such a sticker? I want one for my road bike. I live, race, and commute in Austin and get many a fakenger trying to slay a mad track stand in front of me or (foolishly) attempt to race me.

I'd like my bike to express some of my heartwarming sentiment towards the breed.
  • Damian Riehl PRO 6y

    Um, a messenger made that...
    The context is important.
Maybe it should say, don't shoot the messenger(shoot the hipster). It's a play on this machine kills fascists.
