Uncle Taro Tanji, MIS

Front (L to R): Mom, Uncle Taro Tanji, Aunt Eiko. Standing (L to R): Grandma Ikuyo, Grandpa Sukeyuki Okubo. "December 8, 1946" is written on the back.

While Uncle Taro passed away last year, his wife is eligible to receive the Congressional Gold Medal just issued on Nov. 2, 2011 on his behalf as surviving spouse. Uncle Taro was extremely kind to my mother's family as soon as he arrived for the Occupation of Japan as part of the 8th US Army's Military Intelligence Service. You can make out his 8th Army patch.
