Eastern Reef Egret

Hunting along the water's edge at Yardie Ck. The apparent robustness of its legs surprised me - they're monster thighs and thick toes for a bird.

This is a dark morph that predominates south of the tropic. The white morph of the tropics is completely white.

New bird for me, photographed species number 295! Closing in on my target of 300 for the year - which I know I'll beat since there's another 15 or so still to come from the WA trip.
