NGA lightshow 7

This was one of those unexpected finds -- I went along on the last night not expecting much but it was truly wonderful. Sadly too late to drag everyone else along or exort flickrites to attend.

What impressed me was how carefully they had matched the images to the building surfaces, and mixed and matched images to produce such an exotic and engaging effect. In my view, much better than the sum of its parts. This is art at its most accessible and most arresting.

For Picture Australia... As part of its 25 year celebrations, the National Gallery of Australia in Canberra installed this spectacular lightshow on the exterior of its building. Composed of images in its collection, it was beautifully conceived and designed producing some stunning shapes and composite images.

Unfortunately it only ran for a few nights, these photos were taken on the last night, 15th October 2007.

The NGA building cops heavy criticism for its uninspiring 'concrete block' exterior but its complex multi-faceted design was perfect for this show.
