1320 Carroll Avenue, Queen Anne
Queen Anne - 1897
Historical Monument #77
Original Owner: James B. Mayer, proprietor of the Southern Pacific Transfer Truck Company.
Outstanding example of Queen Anne architecture, this house is graced by two turrets in the front; one, a five-sided turret, forms the cozy corners of the front parlor and part of the master bedroom. Exterior detail includes Queen Anne fan design and lacy spindle work. The floor plan is class Queen Anne, with unusually spacious rooms. Lovely spindle work separates the front and back parlors and the woodwork reveals a pressed woody ivy motif in the vertical moldings around the doors and windows. The two fireplaces contain beautiful Victorian tiles.
Built in 1887 by architect, Joseph C. Newsom. Carroll Avenue is a street situated in Los Angeles, near Echo Park. It is in Angelino Heights, one of the older neighborhoods of Los Angeles. It consists of Victorian-era houses within a picturesque neighborhood, which has served as the backdrop for countless motion pictures from the earliest days of cinema to the present.
