Oxfam is running an emergency cash for work program in Wajir helping families who have lost all their income due to drought. People decide what project they want to implement in the community and in this village of Dilmanyale most have chosen to build latrines.
Hussein Hassan (42) is a member of the local relief committee and helps prepare the hole for the building of the latrine.
The village has been suffering from disease as a result of poor sanitation and this new latrine will help mitigate diseases such as diarrhea. The cash that the family have already received is providing them with basic essentials such as food and water. 90 families are benefiting from the cash for work program in this village alone.
