Urine diversion toilets in Haiti

Sanitation is critical for Haitians living in the camps. Oxfam is focused on developing innovative and environmentally friendly solutions to sanitation problems.

Urine diversion toilets contructed by Oxfam partner SOIL. The toilet seat is constructed so as to divert the urine to a soak-away area.

By the end of March, Oxfam sanitation activites were reaching 81,000 people.

The problems of water and sanitation provision particularly in poor areas, clearing draingage channels, and developing sewage and solid waste sites all need focused attention from the United Nations, Haiti government and international aid donors.
