Philippines Typhoon: A Climate Wake-up Call
For the last two weeks, politicians from around the world have been at UN climate talks in Warsaw, Poland. At the same time, the most powerful storm to ever make landfall decimated the Philippines.
This should have been a wake up call. But yet again, world leaders failed to take notice. That's why yesterday, Oxfam -- along with others including WWF, Greenpeace, ActionAid, Friends of the Earth, trade unions- and other social movements- walked out of the UN climate talks in Warsaw, Poland.
As Winnie Byanyima, head of Oxfam International, said: "Climate change means real harm to people around the globe. It means people losing their lives, homes and livelihoods in floods and typhoons. It means people going hungry because crops have failed and food prices have sky rocketed."
