Suffolk, Montana 59481
Fergus County. A town sign stands near a decaying wooden grain elevator at Suffolk. Along the road to Winifred and once a stop on the Milwaukee Road, Suffolk was named either for the owner of the nearby Suffolk Ranch or by Milwaukee Road officials for a community in New England (depending on which Montana place names book is consulted). Suffolk had a post office that was closed in 1975 (September 12); it first opened in 1914 (February 19). Clara Nelson was the first postmaster.
