Coal Arriving in Bayport, MN

Bayport has a mix of hoity toity marina dwellers and blue collar working stiffs; there's a good amount of rail traffic here on account of the latter, as the Minnesota Commercial, serving Andersen, and Union Pacific, delivering coal to Xcel Energy, are each good for one or two trains per week to this small river town of 3,500.

Bayport's also noteworthy for having about all that's left insofar as trackage along the St. Croix River is concerned; the Omaha Road had its car shop across the river in North Hudson, which of course is all gone now, as are the branches of Northern Pacific, Milwaukee Road, and Soo Line that once served the area. This line is now owned by UP (ex CNW/CMO).
