Hydrogen Density Plots

I didn't make this chart, but it's in the public domain and I'm reposting it here for convenience.

In an early quantum mechanics book they created simulated volume rendering of the 3 dimensional probability density by taking these 2 dimensional diagrams and spinning them with a motor in a dark room. The photos were black and white however I think a color version might be more interesting. You have to glue the same electron distribution on the front and the back of a small piece of thin and rigid plastic. It should appear 'holographic' if a pair of stereo photos is taken with slightly different eye positions.

Yes, I've seen those-- the modern version is the 3D model that you can spin around to look at it from different directions. :)
