    Make a homopolar electric motor. Step 6 (optional): Stripes on the magnet, added with a Sharpie, to allow a tachometer to read the rotational speed of the motor.

      Heyyy, FORTRAN cards! Now *that's* old school.

      BTW, this is the best simple motor I've seen. No FORTRAN required.

      Thanks, and I'm glad that someone noticed the cards!

      We have boxes and boxes of these; we use them for shopping lists and everything else. They are a very convenient size for all sorts of things.
