Rippled Reflection - Vestrahorn, Iceland

During those rainy windy autumn days I often look through my archives. I would rather be out somewhere photographing but the weather is pretty foul these days.

I found this one from last Easter. This is Vestrahorn near Höfn í Hornafirði on the south-east coast of Iceland. It is a very interesting place that one can easily drive past as there is only a small gravel road out to the edge of this peninsula. There used to be a US Navy radar station there but it has now been abandoned since there is no US Navy in Iceland anymore.

The mountains in the background are only of a few mountains in Iceland that dont have a volcanic origin. They are made from gabbro, a stone closely related to granite. These mountains are pretty solid compared with the otherwise loose and crumpling mountains of Iceland.
