Birk & Stock

These babies are getting big fast! You can see they are well feathered now. I love the little hatchling hairs that are still sticking out from under their feathers. All three of them (I believe this is Dad) are starting to get much more apprehensive of my standing so close and photographing them but seem to respond well to my addressing them softly.

I refer to them as Birk & Stock because as you can see their parents built their nest on top of an old pair of Birkenstock sandals that were on the shelf alongside our house.

that owl, Pamela Drouin, cjclicks, and 10 other people added this photo to their favorites.

Instant FAVE !!!! Excellent shot of the mourning dove family. I have never seen dove nestlngs before so this is a real treat. They are so beautiful, and yes, growing amazingly FAST. Do both parents tend to the nest? I'm surprised they let you get close enough to take pics....TACK sharp and perfect lighting. They're names are very fitting. I am so happy to see they are doing well. I'm so envious.

      Thank you everyone.

The morning after I took this photo the nest is completely empty. I'm praying that is a good thing since the babies were around the 2 week point and I've been reading that is about the time they will start to leave the nest with their parents. However I'm worried because they have not shown back up at all and I've not seen them around the yard anywhere. I'll continue to keep and eye out for them.

We also have a second pair of doves nesting just under the overhang of our back porch.
