2010-05-17: Tidying up the Network Hub
[F100904] The failure of my battery-backup was also a reminder that I don't have any separate removable/off-site backup of the material that I maintain on the MediaSmart Server.
Hooking up an external drive showed me how easy that is to do. It took considerable time to backup from the WHS to the external drive, but my 130GB of photos, documents, and various downloads are now secured in one more form. This also implements the practice that I declared when I expanded my business-insurance coverages.
You can see the small 750GB external drive at the bottom center. The far end is illuminated when it is receiving power from the adjacent Windows Home Server box.
You can also see that I am adding an additional 1TB internal drive: the one in the pink slot is waiting to be formatted and incorporated in the duplexed storage. That leaves me with a total of 75% available storage, so I don't expect to run out very soon. The drive was a bargain and I figured it was a good time. Also, with three drives, I suspect that replication works a little better. Just theorizing about that part.
