Stem gall of Tormentil - Potentilla erecta
Tormentil is an herbaceous perennial of acid grassland thru'out the UK.
I had been looking for fungi beneath some Sitka spruce when I sat down for a rest and spotted this. Close looking at the other Tormentil plants revealed no other galls. Lucky or what?
I have found reference on the net (not in my books) to a gall called Xestophanes brevitarsis (a gall wasp) but that is a root gall on this plant species.
Any help appreciated on this one.
