Damselfly with Prey
Taken with just the 28mm reversed and cropped. (Also I used a new, larger flash diffuser I just built, which provides softer light, but is not as bright.)
I spotted this damselfly skittering around the side of the trail I was on, so very slowly and carefully I layed down on my stomach and inched closer and closer so I could move into focus. Just as I was about to reach focus, he/she flew away. Dissapointed, and thinking I had scared it away, I started to get back to my feet, but it returned with this unknown bug in it's mouth. The eating of its acquisition slowed it down enough to allow me to take this photograph.
Unknown to me, a few people had been watching me roll around in the dirt trying to get a photograph of this damselfly. I was a little embarrassed, so I just got up, waved, and headed off into the woods.
Taken near a creek which may become a fruitful insect/spider location for me. During just the few hours I spent there, I saw at least 10 different species/variations of dragonflies and damselflies, was bitten by two horseflies (one with bright green eyes), saw a praying mantis (!), saw two Pelegrina jumping spiders, saw an enormous black spikey orb weaver spider, saw several frogs, kicked a snake on accident ( I was jogging after crossing the road, and felt something that felt like a huge worm connect with my toes and as I looked down, I saw it slither off into the bushes), and dozens of really bizarre little robberflies with huge red eyes mating.
