The Mocking of Jesus

Painting:

The Mocking Of Jesus 1617

Gerrit van Honthorst [Dutch Baroque Era Painter, ca.1590-1656]

I was thinking of a title for the collage, and could do no better than the original. I wanted to have two main colors; black on one side and red on the other. In front of him the darkness which he looked into, and the red heat that flamed behind him. I am a lapsed catholic, but I was never a fervent one. My entry point into Catholicism was through my best friend in high school, she told me that she wanted us together in heaven. I was an unwashed Heathen and was carrying around that Original Sin stigma. I am drawn to religious iconography. Like a moth to a flame. One day I will get burned; at the moment I feel the heat of the painters' obsessions.
