Fancy Woodwork Inside an Abandoned Garage, Mildred MT
While walking around this old building I looked through a glass-less window and into an old shop! There were old shelves and a work bench--and among the things on the work bench was this beautiful piece of wood work! I wanted to take it home so badly but of course I didn't . I don't know what this belonged to but it certainly is too ornate for the building it's in.
This ghost town is such an exciting place to explore! So if you went there, you would probably choose to explore the old store, the bank, or the church first. Not me. My second stop in town was a cluster of the most weathered, dilapidated houses in town. They were tiny. They looked plain. But oh the treasures these buildings held! It amazed me. Today you'll see just a fraction of those things--the best is yet to come!
Exploring the ghost town of Mildred was...(some of you may laugh) one of the best experiences I have ever had. I had never been to a town with so much history and so many stories, that was all completely abandoned. Quiet. Just the wind blew by and the sun beat down. In every building there was a different story, a different bit of history and it came through so clearly you could practically see the ghosts of people walking around. I really can't put the experience into words, it was so overwhelming. So I hope the pictures and video speak for themselves.
This now ghost town was a stop on the Milwaukee road.
The post office was closed in 2005; the Mildred post office first opened in 1908.
Here is a video taken as I was driving into town:
