Inside the dome of the U.S. Capitol Building, Washington DC

    Newer Older

The golden interior of the dome (Rotunda) of the Capitol Building is beautiful when lit on a bright day by the circle of windows below it. The famous 1865 painting in the center by Constantino Brumidi features prominently in Dan Brown's best-selling thriller The Lost Symbol.

Thank you, lamoustique. It is quite a sight indeed. A lot of people recognize the U.S. Capitol dome from the outside, of course, because one sees that in pictures and on TV all the time, but many don't know that the inside of he dome is so beautifully decorated.

Fantastic indeed. I love powerful domes like this and the Invalides; or the Pantheon in Paris (and Rome to a lesser extent).. It is so mind boggling to see how they could achieve this mastery and refinement in the ancient time..
