Wells Fargo Presents Army Staff Sgt. with Six Kids Receives A Mortgage-Free Home
Operation Homefront and Wells Fargo were honored to present a mortgage-free home to Army Staff Sgt. Greg Easley and his family recently in San Antonio, TX as part of the Homes on the Homefront program. The family got to see their home for the first time.

Greg's wife Betty said, "It's truly a miracle, and I don't use that word lightly, to receive a mortgage-free home from Wells Fargo and Operation Homefront. A mortgage-free home!"

In 2003, during a 15-month deployment to Iraq, Greg Easley was performing his duties as a driver when an improvised explosive device (IED) blast flipped the truck that Greg was driving. He suffered multiple injuries in the explosion. He would eventually rejoin his fellow soldiers during the same deployment.

When Greg’s tour was over, he returned home for four months before deploying to Iraq again. After completing the second deployment, Greg and his family moved to a post in Germany. While there he saw a doctor because his injuries had worsened. The injuries suffered during his first deployment to Iraq eventually led to his medical retirement from the service.

While in the process of retiring from the military, Greg and his wife Betty, as well as their six children, moved to San Antonio with hopes of a brighter future. Due to medical and financial issues, the family needed assistance. A commander from Greg’s unit in Germany called Operation Homefront Village-San Antonio to request assistance for the family. Betty said she was hesitant when Operation Homefront called and offered her family an apartment.

“I told her we couldn’t afford rent,” Betty said. “When she said ‘it’s free,’ I’m telling you, the heavens opened up.”

The family was able to move into the apartment within a week. With the move, Greg was able to receive the medical treatment he has needed.
“It has been an absolute blessing,” said Betty of living in the village. “We have peace.”
The family has since been able to get themselves in a better position financially and in health and moved out of the village in February of 2012. They are currently living in a rental home in Killeen, Texas. In August, the family was informed that they had been selected to receive a mortgage-free home through the Homes on the Homefront program.

“I was in shock when we found out,” Betty said. “We couldn’t be more thankful to Operation Homefront and Wells Fargo for their amazing generosity and we are looking forward to growing as a family in the new home.”
