This beautiful bird was perched on this log at a small pond that I like to visit. I've never seen it there before nor have I ever seen one of these around my area. It was surrounded by ducks and as I moved closer to it, all the ducks fled, but this guy didn't move an inch. Eventually, I got to within about 4 feet of it and it still didn't move. I actually wondered if maybe he was blind or something. He was not afraid at all. What a gift I was given to make his acquaintance.

I believe this is a Cormorant (please correct me if I'm wrong). The Cormorant is a seabird that pursues and catches fish under water. When the cormorant catches sight of its prey, it dives swiftly into the water. The bird uses its webbed feet and strong wings to propel itself beneath the surface. Chinese fishermen use tame cormorants to help catch fish for them.

After doing this little bit of research, I couldn't help but wonder whether this one might be someone's trained bird, for he surely was the tamest bird I've ever come upon. :-)
