Day 7: A Self Portrait (7/365)
To mark the end of the first week I decided to take on a self-portrait. I've never done this before, I've never really considered myself a people photographer. It's easy to take pictures of the great outdoors and little figurines in my basement but I found a self portrait to be a true test of my skills and being critical of myself. For the first time ever, I was the model. It took me close to 300 shots to finally lock in the one I liked.
I had the ol' D800 on a tripod with Yongnuo trigger and RFN-4s remote. My sb-600 was camera right about 10 feet from my head and slightly behind, set for 85mm at 1/64 power. I also set up a 36" gold reflector just to my right (camera left). Last I set up 3 fluorescent lights from my wife's Cowboy Studio set up. One was above me on my right pointed down through an umbrella. I also had a light pointed through an umbrella directly below the camera. Last I had a bare fluorescent light about a foot in front of me at chest height. It was a complicated set up but I think it turned out ok!
