I love this shot. I would like to see it without the horizon. Ps think you sensor needs a clean.

Ahhhh, Colin; regrettably the sensor is f*cked. Tried cleaning it and it's just pitted and old (how can it be old after just 2.5 years???). Suppose it's just been beat up too much - oh well, a good excuse to upgrade to the 30D! (in a year or so)

Anywhere is fine. I sorely need to be where this was taken, right now!!!

OK - so I spent a few minutes touching up the areas where my sensor is ruined and now it's ready for the competition!
Tweaked the levels slightly and increased saturation by a hair. Otherwise it really looked very much like this in reality.

This photo is challenging Fire Canoe #2 from the pool of Highly Competitive - Flickr's 100 Best - because it seems like the obvious one to challenge. Vote me in!

The defender is stronger to me, as the subject is much closer and better positioned.

    11. 3blindmice 118 months ago | reply

They are so similar and it is a tough call!
I think I'll go for the defender because of the atmosphere (the fog) and the more interestinf position of the man on the boat!

These are both very excellent photos. And the similarities between the two are amazing. I like the aspect of the fog in the defenders image, and the closer perspective of his canoe. With the canoe leaning so far to one side as he paddles adds another dramatic element to his image.

While both these images are excellent I have to go with the defender.

Both are great, but I like better the shape of the boater on this one, with the 2 paddles we can see very clear... Nice scene!

I love them both, giving me two different moods indeed, I really can not tell which is better even they are shot with different focal lengh, I will give the challenger a second chance for that,

Like everyone else here, I think both are strong images, but I prefer the defender. It is more engaging and has a cleaner feel to it. On the other hand, this photo has a more interesting idea and composition. Still, the rippled sea makes this one less beautiful and I have to vote
