On the "road" to Karma Gon

    Newer Older

We entered the wide valley of the Dza-chu, one of the two main headwaters of the Mekong and followed the river upstream to Karma Gon. Karma Gon is the original monastery of the Karma Kagu tradition, founded in 1147 by the First Karmapa, Dusum Khyenpa (1110-1193). The "road" disappeared entirely in places, we had some hair raising drives along little tracks on the side of cliffs. It was very difficult to get to, and not for the faint hearted.

Sounds exciting! And dramatic looking too. At first glance I thought it was Yosemite for sure.
