Kuningan Day
Ten days after Galungan Day, Balinese Hindu followers celebrate the prosperity day of "Kuningan". On the day of Kuningan, Sakenan Temple has an elaborate temple festival. Sakenan Temple is located in Serangan Island, frequently called Turtle Island. The temple is jam-packed by locals wearing traditional Balinese costumes. Balinese Hindus gather at the temple for the Kuningan ritual ceremonial purposes. Kuningan Day is a time for commemoration as Balinese ancestors return to the heaven after their ten days on earth. The Balinese express their gratitude to gods for their mercy; therefore, it is a time for holiday, visiting each other and fun. Every village in Bali will celebrate Kuningan in grand style, with colorful festivals held at the temple in some parts of Bali Island.
The last day of the 10-day festival is the most important day. Known as Kuningan, it is the climax of the ten-day Galungan, and also serves to bringing the holiday period to a close. Kuningan is a day for prayer, and a special ritual ceremony is held for the spirits of the Balinese's ancestors. The Galungan Festival also sees the Balinese decked in their finest clothes and jewels for the day.
