Sketchbook Project: Austin

My friend was in Austin for SXSW and he went to the Austin Museum of Art to check out and contribute to my "interactive" sketchbook.

The essence is this:

On my list of things to do in 2011, one of the items is to get a tattoo.

Problem? I'm kind of afraid of needles. So this sketchbook experience was a way to explore the idea of a tattoo through letterforms (which I love) and in order to consider the needle issue, I stitched the final outcome in the process. I wasn't trying to make something perfect, I wanted to explore materials and methods as I worked on this.

The interactive bit? I'm asking anyone who checks out my book to add their ideas by sketching a tattoo concept that involves typefaces of some sort. Hence the title, "Facing Forward."

Here is the list of cities/dates. If you live in one of them, please go check it out! There are so many books to look at but I'd love it if you took a moment to contribute to mine.
