Back burning 2

Back burning a section of grass to minimise the risk of any fires flaring up a day after the fire front threatened properties near Boho in north-east Victoria. The fire burnt through about 2000 hectares of land. January was the hottest month on record as Australia experienced an unprecedented heatwave.

In total 123 weather records were broken in 90 days across Australia The Climate Commission released a report called The Critical Decade: Extreme Weather. The report says that hotter and drier weather have contributed to increased bushfire weather risk in south east Australia and that continued increases in hot and dry weather will likely increase the frequency of extreme fire danger days.
