Fruit orchards – all cut back to roots 2007
Juanita WILSON, born 1972
In a bid to save the orchards, many fruit farmers cut their trees back to the roots. This destroys all hope of having a crop to sell in the short term and has a devastating financial impact on farms. Back of Bourke Fruits was one of the largest casualties of the drought on the Darling River—the company went into receivership in 2006.
