The Bridge to Bonnie Doon, 2007

Georgia METAXAS, born 1974.

Lake Eildon has been playground to generations of teenagers in the community of Mansfield. While interviewing her subjects, photographer Georgia Metaxas was told of the lost ritual of ‘tagging’ the Bonnie Doon Bridge. Every New Year’s Eve, someone would hang off the bridge and ‘tag’ it—that is, until the water level dropped to a level too dangerous for even the most adventurous teenager to take the risk.

Mansfield, Victoria.
