Raw whale meat (sashimi)

300yen (40% discounted) - 2.5 USD approximately. I found whale meat at supermarket. Taste is mild (similar to horse meat sashimi ). But, whale meat contains much fiber into meat. So, I sometimes feel difficult to bite meat fully. I think that whale is not tasty food than that many are expected.

Hi, I'm an admin for a group called Whaling ⇂, and we'd love to have your photo added to the group.

The meat looks surprisingly bright. Has it been treated in any way - marinade or something? Wikipedia says "vinegared rice", could the vinegar affect the meat's color?

Hi, thanks for adding my photo.

I think the reason why the meat is bright is light from the lamp on the desk. my camera (installed on the mobile phone) is poor spec. So, when I feel the needs of additional radiation intensity, I sometimes turn on a lump and shine on the subject to take fine PICs.

I would like to add that it was probably pre-marinated in heavy metals like mercury and lead as well as any number of other toxins.

I rather the taste of human meat, theres more to go around, the flesh is colored like no other meat, also you can usually get greed, selfishness and the laziness of choosing a pathetic job.... like whaling. set aside tradition, by 2050 the human population should be about 10 billion. Honestly what the fuck are we going to do when we let our greed and selfishness cause us to massacre species of animals we don't even fully understand. Like i said human meat sure looks more tasty... especially by the year 2050.

I haven't got the numbers, but I'm afraid human meat is even more polluted than whale.

hmmm lets think, its probably because were greedy and eat animals that are contaminated by the shit we put into our oceans.

My father once tasted whale meat in Barcelona, a lot of time ago (some 40 years at least). He said the same, that it hadn't a good taste and wasn't quite easy to eat.

And he must be right, else there wouldn't be no whales at all since some centuries ago.

Well, I'm amazed: It tastes like shit and the poor icelanders still want to try to make bussiness with the japanese to get some extra bucks even in spite of more lucrative industries...

Seems like some icelandic guy with whaling ships has a good friend in the govenrment, or maybe it's this vodka they drink, or an excess of magic mushrooms XD

Yes, I've had my share of less than perfect whale meat, in the days when whale was a staple food in Norway. But now that whale meat is rare, it seems to be treated better, and generally tastes fine.

Anyway, taste was not a factor in the reduction of global whaling. Remember, whaling was an industrial process. Even the meat was generally not used as such, but processed to oil and fertilizer. Some of these products ended in industrial foods, but very little of the southern whales were eaten as meat.

    Just curious:

Living in Europe, Japanese restaurants only serve Sashimi made from fish, usually salmon and tuna.

Is Sashimi from meat common in Japan? Do you use the same dip, i.e. soy sauce and wasabi?

To These Pictures are Entirely Bad,

Sashimi from meat is not so common, but sometimes Japamese eat sashimi from meat, for example, sashimi from chicken, beef, pork offal, and horse meat. And When I eat sashimi from chicken and beef, I use soy sauce, but I do not use soy sauce for sashimi from pork offal, horse meat.
